Press Release Unwin Safety SystemsPRESS RELEASE UNWIN SAFETY SYSTEMS LAUNCHES THE WORLD’S FIRST CRASH CAPABLE RESTRAINTS FOR HEAVIER WHEELCHAIRS Unwin Safety Systems will be debuting the Invacare 190kg wheelchair restraint system on stand D20. This four point webbing restraint has been designed by Unwin for Invacare’s TDX, Storm and Typhoon I & II powered wheelchairs and an example will also be on the Invacare stand B10-13. Unwin’s Invacare 190kg wheelchair restraints are the world’s first four point tiedown systems to be developed for this weight of chair and have been dynamically tested to international standard ISO 10542-5 and ISO 7176-19. “Unwin has recognised a need in the market for restraints that not only restrain heavier wheelchairs but deliver crash capable results. This demonstrates Unwin Safety Systems and Invacare’s commitment for continuous product development for powered wheelchair users,” commented Gerry O’Connor, Unwin’s Sales and Marketing Director. As with all Unwin wheelchair restraint systems the Invacare 190kg restraints have been designed to offer maximum levels of safety while also being very easy to use. The Storm and Typhoon tiedown systems comprise of longer and stronger webbing to fit the design of the respective chairs. The two rear restraints for both chairs are securely anchored to a floor rail using a specially designed foot which has a bespoke double plunger mechanism that evenly spreads the weight of the chair. Unwin’s market leading Snaplock system is used to connect the rear straps to the restraint resulting in the fast and efficient restraining of both the chair and occupant. The over centre buckle mechanism makes both systems fully adjustable. A solid rail fixing securely anchors the front restraints to the floor while a simple to use Karabiner hook is used to connect the chair to the restraint.Unwin Safety Systems has been pioneering the manufacture of world-leading wheelchair and occupant safety systems for over 50 years. Only last year it has raised the bar on international safety standards by developing a range of products that exceed current international ISO directives by 41% and demonstrate pure innovation in terms of technical brilliance and guaranteed safety from the company that delivered real safety to wheelchairs users for the very first time, worldwide, in 1964.
