Press Release Unwin Safety Systems

PRESS RELEASE UNWIN SAFETY SYSTEMS LAUNCHES THE WORLD’S FIRST CRASH CAPABLE RESTRAINTS FOR HEAVIER WHEELCHAIRS Unwin Safety Systems will be debuting the Invacare 190kg wheelchair restraint system on stand D20. This four point webbing restraint has been designed by Unwin for Invacare’s TDX, Storm and Typhoon I & II powered wheelchairs and an example will also be on the Invacare stand B10-13. Unwin’s Invacare 190kg wheelchair restraints are the world’s first four point tiedown systems to be developed for this weight of chair and have been dynamically tested to international standard ISO 10542-5 and ISO 7176-19. “Unwin has recognised a need in the market for restraints that not only restrain heavier wheelchairs but deliver crash capable results. This demonstrates Unwin Safety Systems and Invacare’s commitment for continuous product development for powered wheelchair users,” commented Gerry O’Connor, Unwin’s Sales and Marketing Director. As with all Unwin wheelchair restraint systems the Invacare 190kg restraints have been designed to offer maximum levels of safety while also being very easy to use. The Storm and Typhoon tiedown systems comprise of longer and stronger webbing to fit the design of the respective chairs. The two rear restraints for both chairs are securely anchored to a floor rail using a specially designed foot which has a bespoke double plunger mechanism that evenly spreads the weight of the chair. Unwin’s market leading Snaplock system is used to connect the rear straps to the restraint resulting in the fast and efficient restraining of both the chair and occupant. The over centre buckle mechanism makes both systems fully adjustable. A solid rail fixing securely anchors the front restraints to the floor while a simple to use Karabiner hook is used to connect the chair to the restraint.Unwin Safety Systems has been pioneering the manufacture of world-leading wheelchair and occupant safety systems for over 50 years. Only last year it has raised the bar on international safety standards by developing a range of products that exceed current international ISO directives by 41% and demonstrate pure innovation in terms of technical brilliance and guaranteed safety from the company that delivered real safety to wheelchairs users for the very first time, worldwide, in 1964. Unwin Safety Systems are trusted by professionals internationally and currently include a comprehensive range of wheelchair and occupant restraint systems, flooring solutions and seat fixtures. This extensive portfolio ensures that regardless of vehicle, wheelchair or powerchair type, Unwin can provide a solution to ensure peace of mind for vehicle owner, driver and passenger. PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3rd June 2008

TDX® SP : giving more than mobility

Invacare® is delighted to announce the launch of the TDX SP, a center wheel drive (CWD) power wheelchair designed for indoor and outdoor use.

The TDX SP is characterised by outstanding manoeuverability, enabled through the cleverly engineered Centre Wheel Drive (CWD) system. CWD construction is designed with the tightest possible turning radius, allowing users to steer round even the smallest of spaces. With a CWD wheel base, users enjoy excellent steering ability and an enjoyably smooth and safe driving experience both indoors and out.

COMFORT IN MOTION

As always at Invacare, seating comfort is a priority. The TDX SP comes with three different seating options including standard, contour and flex. Our pioneering 50° tilt-in-space function together with a reclining backrest of 35° provides optimum pressure relief, seating and back support.

TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

Active users will appreciate the innovative Stability Lock function which offers maximum stability and safety. Stability Lock helps keep all six wheels on the ground and also has a shock-absorbing effect. The TDX SP also boasts SureStep® technology – a clever piece of engineering that ensures smooth travel over obstacles up to 7.5 cm high and which will carry this power wheelchair up and down bumps or kerbs.

SAFETY IN MIND

The TDX-SP is the ideal companion for indoor and outdoor use. Even heavier users (up to 180 kg) can enjoy speedy, secure mobility thanks to its powerful drive mode. With good reverse driving and CWD to ensure perfect manoeuvers in less-than-perfect conditions, TDX SP puts an end to frustrating stuck wheels and precarious pavements, making getting out and about a pleasure again.

Developed in conjunction with Unwin Safety Systems, crash capable heavy duty restraints for
Invacare TDX, Storm 3 and Typhoon I & II Power wheelchairs weighing up to 190kg are now available.
These 4 point tie down systems are exclusively available to order directly from Unwin Safety Systems

Orion & Comet Scooters

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3rd June 2008

Being Launched at Mobility Roadshow 2008. Join us at stand number B10-B13 to see these exciting new additions to our Scooter range.

CometTM and OrionTM: two new products from Invacare®!

Invacare® is delighted to announce the launch of two sophisticated new scooters. The OrionTM and the CometTM represent new levels of convenience for users. Both scooters handle everyday situations with ease. With a large battery capacity, the OrionTM is ideal for frequent trips around town and day trips away. The robust Comet TM offers higher speeds and is perfect for getting around quickly and safely.

Safety first
As always at Invacare®, customer peace of mind is paramount and the OrionTM and CometTM come equipped with unique safety features. A two-step disengaging lever prevents the scooters from free-wheeling if knocked out of drive mode. Optimum security is also guaranteed when turning corners; both models are equipped with an electronic speed reduction feature which automatically slows the scooter when going round bends. The OrionTM and CometTM comply with the Medical Device Standards for Europe and have been tested in the German independent TÛV test laboratory.

Invacare® OrionTM: taking you further
Those that enjoy freedom of mobility will appreciate the durability and strength of the OrionTM, which is specially designed for longer distances – perfect for trips around town or fun days out. A powerful motor, fully-sprung chassis and generous wheels glide smoothly over obstacles and even tackle rough terrain. We recognise that for our users, comfort is critical and the OrionTM is designed with this in mind. Padded ergonomic handles provide relief for hands and arms during longer trips. An adjustable, cushioned, swivel seat makes for a relaxing and enjoyable drive.

Invacare® CometTM: for a fast-paced lifestyle
The CometTM positively invites adventure! Big wheels, a powerful battery and adjustable suspension ensure that the CometTM is always raring to go. With high speeds and a large battery capacity, the CometTM can go further, faster. The CometTM easily tackles obstacles or uneven ground, giving users the ability to go anywhere and everywhere. With compact, ergonomic steering, manoeuvres can be executed with precision, even in tight spaces.

Benefit from our bright ideas
Both the speedy CometTM and sturdy OrionTM boast the latest high-tech functionalities. Intelligent electronics on both scooters provide helpful visual and audio signals when the batteries need recharging. Similarly, the sophisticated lighting system includes easily visible DUAL-bulb headlights, indicators that automatically switch off and an integrated heavy-duty brake light for safety. For added security, lights operate in such a way that should a light bulb fail, all others remain fully functional.

High technology, low maintenance
Both scooters are constructed using only the highest quality components. This makes for increased reliability and greater ease of maintenance. The battery, electronics, motor and cables can be easily reached by simply removing one of the covers. Internal parts are protected from corrosion and water (splash protection) which safeguard the vital workings of the scooter against dirt and water preventing any unnecessary malfunction.
